Bio

Passion Bel Canon, the unlikely alliance of an environmental manager, barista and jobbing actress, started life as a series of internet adverts looking for musical collaborators in 2013.

Since their online beginnings, the band have been merging their individual influences to create their own brand of atmospheric indie-pop. Combining Lauren Partridge’s soaring emotive vocals, Will Barter’s dynamic guitar playing and Jamie Smith’s powerful upright drumming style, the London based trio create infectiously rhythmic songs with a dark edge. Using an array of synths and samples played alongside acoustic instruments including kalimba, glockenspiel and ukulele, the band’s live and recorded performances have been likened to alternative pop artists Bat For Lashes and Daughter.

Releasing their debut single ‘Land of Hope’ with DTSE Music in 2014, Passion Bel Canon have received radio play on BBC 6Music’s The Tom Robinson show, notably supported Sony signed artist Owlle and Irish chart toppers HamsandwicH and played at Farm Festival, Nozstock and Chilled in a Field. After a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015, their fan-funded debut EP ‘Lights’ was recorded with Werkhouse and self-released in October 2016. Directed by Will Bloomfield, their first music video for ‘Lights’, the title track from the EP, is out on 13th February 2017.

In other news, we have another gig booked, supporting Storme down at the Camden Assembly on the 4th of March which should be set to be an awesome gig, you can get more details here.

Just a short one today, later all!

Exciting New Year

Well here it is, 2017, and let’s be honest everything seems pretty crazy right now.  However, let’s not forget that somewhere in all this craziness there’s the possibility for truly exciting things to happen, and whilst 2017 may not be the best yet for american presidents, it certainly has the possibility of being a great one for your favourite band Passion Bel Canon.

We’ve already had a great start playing at Paper Dress Vintage, a new venue for us but one that’s already become possibly our favourite to play so far.  It was a great crowd with some brilliant bands, one of our favourite being the shiver inducing Chesca Dolecka, definitely seek her out if you get the chance.

In other news, we have a few more gigs lined up already this year, firstly playing with our good friends Evering, Stealing SignsIzzie Yardley and Patchwork Skies (all brilliant) at the New Cross Inn on the 19th of February. You can check it the event here, with a lineup like that it should be a good one!

We’ll also be supporting Della Lupa along with the awesome Sykoya down at The Finsbury Pub on the 19th of March, check it out here

And check out Della Lupa, really looking forward to this one:

And speaking of music videos, we finally have a release date for our first one!  It’s gonna be coming out on the 13th of February, so make sure to get yourselves on youtube on that date.

Here’s the first teaser image from it:

There’s gonna be plenty more where that came from, but we’ll tell you all about that at a later date 😉

That’s it for now, until next time.

It’s been a while.

Hello everyone!

So we’ve just got back from playing at Live at Heart in Sweden and we had a blast watching some truly incredible stuff (from the intricate and beautiful to the terrifying and weird) and meeting some wonderful musicians.

We felt so inspired we decided to put together a Spotify playlist of some of our favourite stuff for you to check out and we’ve been straight back in the studio writing some new material so watch this space!

Anyway as for news of things up and coming we are very excited to be playing alongside some brilliant acts this Saturday for The Stow Fest down in Walthamstow.  We’re gonna be playing at The Wild Card Brewery at 2pm and it would be great to see all your faces there!  You can stick around and we can watch some cool music together as well!

The response has been overwhelming and word’s cannot express just how gracious we are for all the support and positivity we have been receiving, it really makes all the long hours and struggles feel worth it, so from the bottom of our hearts we say a very sincere thank you to everyone who made this dream become a reality.

One of our backers even went so far as to write this flattering review on his blog.

Anyway, enough of us gushing, in other music news our drummer Jamie has produced a fabulous remix of our debut remix under his alter ego Azield:

If you like what you hear you can get it on iTunes.  Watch this space over the next few months as there will be more remixes to come.

In gig news we had a great time supporting the brain bustlingly fantastic Victoria+Jean the past week.  We had an absolute blast and a big thank you to everyone who was able to make it down.

Finally, instead of our usual Passion section we decided to do something a bit different and put together the a PBC Passion Playlist of the various pieces of music that has been tickling our fancy the last few weeks.  Hope you enjoy!
